Herniated Disc

Herniated disc

Herniated discs are different than bulging discs. To understand the difference, let's take a look at what exactly we're looking at here.

The disk itself is the rubbery cushion between the vertebra (the bones that make up your spine). Think of each disk as a jelly donut with a soft center and a thicker outer shell. Sometimes called a slipped disc or ruptured disc, a herniated disc is when some of the softer insides push through a crack in the outer shell.

A herniated disk can irritate nearby nerves and result in pain, numbness or weakness in an arm or leg. However, many people feel absolutely no pain from this and show no signs or symptoms.

Common Symptoms Associated with A Herniated Disc

Often times people with herniated discs will show no symptoms and feel no pain. Published studies have proven 2 of 3 people without any pain whatsoever do in fact have a herniated or bulging disc.

However, a herniated disc may cause some short term pain and discomfort at the level of the spine affected. It may also cause some shooting pain to the areas of the affected nerves, such as down into your legs or into your arms. But again, this is unlikely and probably being cause by something else.

Diagnosis and Treatment

Most medical professionals will see these symptoms and instantly associate them with a herniated disc. An MRI or a CT scan can check for structural abnormalities in the spine and discs, but this will not guarantee a proven source of your pain.

Depending on the results of the scans, your doctor may suggest physical therapy, muscle-relaxant medications, pain medications, anti-inflammatory drugs, epidurals, and even surgical procedures.

Unfortunately, people with a disc herniation are often told that they should rest to prevent re-injuring the disc. The latest research has shown more rest means a longer recovery. In addition, studies show that surgery is unsuccessful in 74% of cases.

Since structure is rarely the real cause of pain, doing anything to treat yourself physically could never produce more than temporary relief. Doctors focus on treating the symptoms and not the real source of your pain.

Modern Breakthroughs & More Effective Therapy

Remember this fact before seeking treatment for a herniated disc... 2 of 3 people that have never had pain have bulging discs, herniated discs, protrusions or extrusions.

This is a fact proven by scientific studies and published by the most trusted medical journals in the world.

So what does this mean for you?

It means that while the MRI may show these structural abnormalities exist – they almost never have anything to do with the cause of your pain. If they did all those millions of people with the same issues wouldn’t be completely free of pain.

That’s why everything you’ve tried so far has only provided some temporary relief. Then the pain and other symptoms come rushing back again and again...

The old-school medical approach treats the symptom – the bulging disc, herniated disc, protrusion, or extrusion. Since that is almost never the cause of pain, the positive results are often only temporary.

The latest neuroscience studies have shown that the cause of pain, and other symptoms based on structure and physiology, actually have a psycho-physical cause associated with stress and tension.

You already know that stress and tension exacerbate your pain. What you’ve never known before right now is that what causes your stress and tension is what actually causes your pain. The same pain that is almost always incorrectly blamed on your disc.

Over 30 years of scientific and neuroscientific research have determined this outcome. The biggest benefit for you is that the real cause of most pain has been determined. You have new options to relieve your pain that were completely unavailable before. This stops the days of ongoing pain management and adds the possibility for millions of people to use a conservative, safe and proven method to permanently eliminate their pain and other symptoms.

A purely intellectual and emotion focused approach pioneered by Dr. John Sarno in the 1970’s has proven exceptionally effective for people diagnosed with bulging disc, herniated disc, fibromyalgia, spinal stenosis, radiculopathy, whiplash, sciatica, migraine headaches and other incomplete diagnoses.

While most doctors are not aware of this concept, millions of people have been helped through the work of Dr. Sarno and many other doctors and experts since then. You too can benefit by opening up your mind to this alternate reason for your pain and the simple approach to ending your symptoms.

The downside is that not everyone can be pain free. The upside is that there is a Pain Test that has been scientifically developed to provide an objective result based on your specific situation. This will provide you exactly what you need to know about whether or not you can permanently end your pain.
